Location Data Space: the European data space dedicated to location data
The Location Data Space enables public and private organisations to share, enhance and leverage their location data within a secure and interoperable environment. The National Land Survey (NLS) designed this data space by building on the data sharing and collaboration platforms Location Europe and Location Finland. It brings together public authorities, businesses, researchers and service providers. Together, they create new digital services, artificial intelligence applications and cross-sector use cases within a secure environment. The Location Data Space is built on European data space standards. As a result, it fosters collaboration across the mobility, smart cities, environment, tourism and territorial development sectors.
The objectives of the Location Data Space
Develop a collaborative ecosystem around spatial data: Publish, discover and combine spatial data and location services to accelerate the development of collaborative use cases.
Accelerate the development of AI and data services: Reuse trusted geospatial data to develop artificial intelligence applications, digital services and automated workflows.
Connect the Location Data Space with other European data spaces: Share data and services with other European data spaces through interoperability with the Green Deal Data Space, EONA-X, DS4SSCC and EMDS via the Data Space Interoperability Framework (DSIF).
Enhance the value of location data: Facilitate the discovery and reuse of data and APIs by new partners to create more value and new services.
Ensure interoperability in line with European standards: Built on GAIA-X, the Data Space Protocol (DSP), Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), and DSIF standards to simplify exchanges between platforms and ecosystems.
Develop a sovereign marketplace for geospatial services: Enable public and private operators to publish, combine and distribute location data and services within a shared commercial and contractual framework.
The Location Data Space: an innovation accelerator
The Location Data Space transforms the Location Europe and Location Finland platforms into a true European collaboration and innovation hub. In particular, it enables organisations to:
Develop new digital services based on location data.
Create artificial intelligence applications using geospatial data.
Connect multiple organisations around a shared project.
Share data and services within a secure environment.
Extend these collaborations to other European data spaces through interoperability.
The stakeholders of the Location Data Space
The Location Data Space brings together organisations that produce, share and use location data to deploy collaborative digital services and artificial intelligence applications across Europe.
Develop new services with the Location Data Space
The Location Data Space enables you to design innovative services more quickly by combining location data, digital services and artificial intelligence applications. You gain access to a collaborative environment where you can publish, discover and use geospatial data to create new use cases in, for example, the following domains:
- urban planning;
- multimodal mobility;
- territorial digital twins;
- environmental monitoring;
- tourism;
- territorial planning.
Thanks to a ready-to-use interoperable infrastructure, you reduce the time needed to identify partners, access data and deploy your projects.
Provider
Publish your data, APIs and services to make them available to a European ecosystem. As a result, enhance the value of your resources for public and private organisations through a secure contractual framework.
Quickly identify the data, services and partners you need to deploy your projects.
The Location Data Space notably facilitates the development of use cases around:
- AI for urban planning;
- Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) optimisation;
- Local Digital Twins;
- AI agents for neighbourhood resilience;
- environmental monitoring;
- tourism services based on location data.
Five families of use cases developed with the Location Data Space
The Location Data Space accelerates the development of innovative use cases based on location data. It combines geospatial datasets, digital services and artificial intelligence applications to address real-world needs.
VisionsTrust: the technology accelerating the Location Data Space
The Location Data Space relies on VisionsTrust. This technology enhances the Location Europe and Location Finland platforms with the essential capabilities of a European data space. VisionsTrust is built on a modular infrastructure and on open-source components developed by Prometheus-X. It enables stakeholders to publish, share and enhance their location data within a secure, interoperable environment that complies with European standards.
VisionsTrust provides:
- a catalogue to publish, discover and enhance location-related data, services and projects;
- a connector that interconnects the APIs, data and services of all participants;
- contractualisation and governance tools to manage access rights, data usage policies and exchanges between partners;
- Service Chains that orchestrate workflows between data, APIs and AI services without requiring specific development;
- interoperability mechanisms that connect the Location Data Space with other European data spaces through the Data Space Interoperability Framework (DSIF) and the GAIA-X, Data Space Protocol (DSP) and OGC standards.
