Legal Data Space: A European Data Space dedicated to legal professionals
The Legal Data Space is the first sovereign data space dedicated to the secure sharing of public and private legal data in Europe. Developed as part of a collaborative innovation project and launched by around a hundred partners, the Legal Data Space creates a trusted environment for sharing legal data. Institutions, LegalTech companies, law firms, businesses, and researchers can exchange and leverage data within it, in full compliance with European standards.
Objectives of the Legal Data Space
Ensure a sovereign framework for legal data: Reduce dependency on dominant players and strengthen the technological independence of European institutions and legal professionals through a secure data-sharing framework compliant with European standards.
Foster the growth of legal AI: Provide reliable, structured and interoperable data to train specialised AI models, develop trusted legal assistants and automate low-value tasks.
Optimise legal professionals’ processes and tools: Connect public and private data to automate document analysis, strengthen compliance, accelerate processing and improve the quality of legal operations.
Develop a sovereign marketplace for AI assistants for professional bodies: Enable professional bodies, institutions, LegalTech companies and software providers to create, distribute and manage their own sovereign AI assistants and agents based on trusted data, European standards and shared governance rules. This marketplace provides a secure environment for deploying specialised assistants tailored to the needs of each regulated profession.
Drive innovation across the legal sector: Provide a framework that supports experimentation, resource sharing and the development of new digital services aligned with the values of the legal profession.
Advance European digital commons: Contribute to the development of Prometheus-X shared building blocks and European standards (data contracts, policies, ODRL, Rulebooks and legal ontologies) to make data exchanges and AI agents fully interoperable.
Stakeholders Involved in the Legal Data Space
The Legal Data Space is built on a network of partners working together to create a secure, sovereign, and interoperable data space. Each stakeholder plays a key role in its construction, experimentation, and adoption across the legal sector.
Collaboration between VisionsTrust and the Legal Data Space
VisionsTrust collaborates with the Legal Data Space on secure data sharing, interoperability and usage governance within legal environments, particularly through the implementation of the Legal Data Space Connector (LDS Connector).
This collaboration contributes to the development of mechanisms enabling legal stakeholders to share and exploit data within a sovereign and secure framework.
The work also focuses on the evolution of technological commons from the Prometheus-X ecosystem, particularly around contracts, policies and ODRL standards applied to data exchanges.
Areas of collaboration
Interoperability
Contribution to open standards facilitating the circulation and exploitation of data between platforms and stakeholders in the legal sector.
Governance of uses
Definition of rules and policies to govern the use of data and AI agents.
Contribution to technological commons
Participation in the evolution of common building blocks linked to Prometheus-X and European data space standards.
